Mulesss!

I have always, secretly, wanted a mule.
Infact, I almost cried when I found out Rosie wasn't pregnant to a donkey a few weeks before we bought her.

They are smart.
They have AWESOME LOOKING EARS. No really? Never would have guessed.
Did I mention smart?

I like playing around on the computer, researching different equine things. I always come back to mules.
Mule racing.
Mule babies.
Mule breeding.
Mules mules mules.

This blog really has no point, i'm just going to randomly write about mules, because I have nothing better to do until it's time to pick up my boyfriend from work and GET MY VERY FIRST PAYCHECK!! YAY!:)

I love how when mules run, they tuck their tails in...it's kinda cute!
When I grow up..I want a barrel racing mule. I haven't seen any extremely well trained barrel mules, and I'd love to do it. I'm not sure if they are as fast as a horse, but it would still be fun.

I found out that YES, mule mares can infact, have babies. Mules and mules can't be bred together, but a mule and a horse can.
Look at those funny legs on that guy!

Mules know exactly where their feet are. Watch this video, I found it pretty entertaining. However, I'd be scared to do some of this stuff without proper leg protection for my equine friend, but splint boots get covered in stickers on trails. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1sfDlLluJY&feature=related

Somewhere I read that mules do not show the overo gene. I have never even seen an overo mule, come to think of it. They come in pretty much every color out their, my favorite is bay with high white socks and a white tail.
Bay mule tobiano foal. Ain't he adorable?

Mules have both the donkey and horse survival instincts. Many people consider mules to be "stubborn", but it's kind of a natural thing they get from donkeys. If a donkey was walking alone, in a canyon at night, and something spooked him, he would freeze, so he wouldn't run off a cliff. I read about a guy riding him mule through the woods at night. He couldn't see anything and his mule randomly stopped. He decided they had gone far enough, so he set up camp. When he awoke the next morning, he was litterally feet from a huge cliff. Another time I read about some guys on a hunting trip, they came across a cougar, and one of the mules threw it's rider, attacked the cougar and killed it.
Mule gelding attacking a cougar.

Don't know what it is...but Dream just can't stand mules..

This is my uncle's mule, Jack. He is about 28 in this picture. He has severe problems in his hind legs, which prevents him from being riden, but he still runs along the trail with everyone else.

Everyday is just a day closer to freedom.

Val really made me think about writing this..dunno why, but yeah.

Just one more year, I tell myself. Just one more year.
I always find myself looking far ahead into the future.
What is my house going to be like?
How can I afford it?
How will I make money?

So lets lay out my "dream house plan" for ya.
I want a small house, 3 bed/2 bath, either a modular home or a underground home (I need to hide from these twisters!). I want a walk in shower, and my utility room to have a door, straight outside so I can move out a broken washing machine or whatever LOL
60ish acers, with a pond.
my house far off from the road.
A zipline across the pond :D
Two broodmare pastures, along with several turnouts and large open pastures. A barn with 2 stud stalls, with 5 other stalls, devided by a tack and feed room.
A round pen, size doesn't matter.
An arena, big enough for a barrel pattern.
A 3 car garage with a car lift for the ever deserving boyfriend.
Some random cows and chickens here and there...just because.
A border collie and a "Lassie" collie:)

I feel like I am too young to be thinking about such things, but by taking the challenge of being a lifetime horse owner, I have to think about things for the well being of my horses.

My plan is to go to the agricultural community college about 30 minutes from my house after college. Go for 2 years, then decide what I am doing after that. Hopefully I will have enough money to board all of my horses, so my parent's can get on with their lives and not have to live in this crappy old money-pit of a house anymore. If I'm still with Peyton, which we are both planning on, we will probably get an appartment together for a few years until we are ready to own our own place. Probably look into foreclosed properties first..
blah blah blah and then the rest is what I make of it.
I can't plan to far ahead, or I will have planned out my life, and not been able to live it.
I love it when I start blogging or typing about something, then realise what I was talking about is all stupid. LOL

Also, I'm thinking about leasing out Rosie and maybe Dream when I go off to college. I won't be able to give them the time they deserve, and I still need for them to get riden. The longer Rosie is kept in shape, the better her older years will be...or so my coach has told me. I don't plan on letting her go to another drill family, unless it's for a junior team where they will only be trotting with slight loping. Dream has a lot of potential in pretty much any feild, and I would be willing to let somebody ride her and train her for themselves (iiiiif they know what they are doing). She has shown a lot of promise as an English horse, but also as a playday/speedevent mare.
Of course, my parent's will kill me if I found a way to keep Rebel...sadly.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAND I forgot what I was going to say. UGH.

*Side note* I like how I STILL have not totally figured out what I am going to do as a "profession". I was thinking becoming a farrier, but I am kind back on forth on that. I want something that I can be around horses, use my creativity, use my smarts (yes, even though I try not to believe it, I am a SMART blonde!) and be able to make a good income. We'll see what happens.
Maybe a equine chiropracter?
Deffinately going to have training as something to do. You won't be able to keep me off a horses back unless I am pregnant! LOL!

Update on my dad. Him and my mom are talking, but it's still "my fault" that he has abandoned phones and the internet forver. Yeah, good luck with that.

Please, just get me out of here.

I feel like every move I take, is going to be seen wrong somehow.

If I slip up once, I'm automatically a failure.

I want out of this house. I can't stand the stress levels. This house has so many issues, so many effing problems...there's the problems with the house its self, and then there is the problems with the people inside it.
So my scum-bag aunt Christy told my dad that 6 months after my grandpa's (my dad's father) death, he could get the things that were his back, BY BIDDING ON THEM AT AUCTION. That's messed up. I don't care who you are. All the things I want to say to this woman......I have never wished death, or pain, upon anyone....but to me, she isn't anyone. She is nothing.

I left my facebook up, and on a status of mine telling about the Freedom Riders playday, my dad wrote (while on his acount) "I will be there if I am not on the auction!" and then on my account he wrote "well I sure hope that doesn't happen".
However, when I got home from Peyton's and checked my facebook and saw it, I thought he was talking about a car auction or something. I made a new status saying " So if you got something random......my dad has been on my facebook for a while......" I was just playing, as this isn't the first time this as happened..apparently I screwed up.
My dad isn't talking to my mom.
They were going to go to Chicago for their anniversary, now that's not happening.
My dad is threatening to take away me and my brothers texting, turning off the cable and the internet.
He is demanding to see our report cards, but there isn't anything we can do about that until they mail them to us.
He want's me back at 9 now. It's stupid, because he'd let me out until 10:30 on school nights. Seriously?

What the hell did I do wrong? I had no idea about the auction...I thought that 6 months was in July, and I didn't even think it was going to go through...........

I need out. But I can't...I've been trying to plan time with Kasey to go swim at White Water, and the one time I really need someone to talk to...she ditches me. Doesn't even let me know. Thanks. Bitch.

Peyton's taking forever to respond, and if it's cuase he is playing Call of Duty, my dad can take my freaking texting away. If I am that hard of a person to just talk to when I am upset and need someone to talk to, please, by all means, don't talk to me period.

If running away was an option, I just might take it. But I won't leave my mom, brother or horses behind.

Christy, go burn in hell. Its all your fault. I used to think maaaybe, just mayybe you had sense for doing this, but never mind. I don't give a damn about you. Say I am a slut, I don't care. Just because I can hold down a relationship for over a year, and not sleep with every guy in my 6A highschool like your daughter, doesn't give you a damn right to EVER open your mouth about me.

****SORRY FOR THE MASSIVE VENTING, I'D TAKE IT OUT ON MY FRIENDS BUT OBVIOUSLY THEY ARE M.I.A!!!****

Horses Survival Instinct

Several twisters blew through Oklahoma last week, and I have heard of three amazing survival stories.

1. Blazes Equine Rescue recently fostered out a companion only horse to a family in Calumet, Oklahoma. He had a dislocated pelvis, so he couldn't be riden. Blazes recently got a call that he had gotten caught in the tornado, and his ear was ripped out of the ear canal, along with several other issues. They went to put him down, and he was pronouced dead that day. A few days later, they got a call about a stray horse walking around Calumet. "Elvis" was still alive and had not left the building!!! When they "put him down", he had so much adrenaline going that it just slowed his heart rate down to an undetecable pace. Blazes Rescue is now doing everything in their power to make sure Elvis can recover.

Elvis being treated on scene.

2. (copied from the News 9 website)
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Tuesday's tornados killed a lot of pets and other animals. Many people lost their cattle and horses when the tornadoes tore through their pastures and farms.
But there are also some miraculous stories of survival and a horse named Fiona is one of them.
She has several stitches on her side and underneath and is truly lucky to be alive. She was out in a field in Calumet when a tornado tore a path right through there.
She somehow managed to get inside a barn that was closed off, but then that barn collapsed on top of her.
The mare was trapped inside all of this mangled mess of metal and debris.
"Basically it just formed a nice little cocoon for her to survive under. She was trapped in there for probably 16 to 18 hours. No food or water and when we did find her we had to get a dozer," said Natalee Cross of Blaze's Tribute Equine Rescue. "She never overreacted about the situation or anything."
What's more amazing is how Fiona even found shelter. You see Fiona can't see.
"She can't see, she's totally blind, so how she know what to do or where she was going I don't know. She definitely had an angel watching over her that day too," Cross said.

Fiona under all the rubble. :(

3. (copied from the News 9 website also)
And Fiona is not the only horse that miraculously survived. There is Moonstruck and Catori.
Catori has actually escaped death twice before. She was being sent to slaughter when the trailer she was in crashed on the highway last May.
Several horses died in the crash. Catori survived and was pregnant at the time.
Moonstruck was born two months ago, and both mother and colt were also out in a field in Calumet when that tornado blew through.
"She found the best possible place to lay low and keep her baby as protected as possible," Cross said.
Moonstruck has several deep cuts and is limping along. But Catori, though skittish, seems to have come through unscathed.
"God has a purpose for them, I don't know what it is yet, but they're meant to be here. And they keep on fighting," Cross said.
God does have a purpose for all of these horses. And right now, they are being nursed back to health by volunteers and fosters with Blaze's Tribute Equine Rescue.

Catori and Moonstruck

What is more amazing, is ALL of these horses were from the same place. The Wallings family was fostering 21 horses for Blazes, and only these 4 made it. The family lost everything. Find Blaze's Equine Rescue on facebook to read more. Here is a link to more photo's of the damage of the Walling's place and the horses. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150275770013745.373829.281046378744

What I love about Dusty!!!!

Today was my last day as a Junior in highschool. I AM FINALLY A SENIOR!! I THOUGHT I'D NEVER MAKE IT THIS FAR!!! I'M SOOO HAPPY! :D It was an amazing last day, and I had a lot of fun. I go back to work on Sunday, so I have today and tomorrow all to myself.
When I got home after school today, I bogged around on facebook for a while then went and decided to saddle up little Mr. Dusty. He is a little over two now, and it's my goal place in the OkFQHR Stakes 2-Yo Pleasure with him:) Excited! Dusty did AMAZING for his first ride. I've done lots of work with him previously, like saddling him up, sitting on him, etc. He learned to give to the bit on the first try, so that was pretty easy for him. He learned soooo quick today, and by the end of our 10 minute ride he was walking and trotting circles, backing up and even trying to pivot!

For three years, the OkFQHR has had an essay contest for the youth. The youth member that participated in the essay and had the most LEAP points, won one of the Mulder Ranch foals, sired by San Dunit Two Peppy. I worked long and hard in 2009 to get up my LEAP points, through different 4H and OkFQHR shows and volunteering at the shows and what-not. I don't really remember what my essay was about, but I believe it was over the "Unwanted Horse" issue. I was sitting at school and I got a message from Kasey's mom saying "YOU WON!! YOU WON!!!" and I just about passed out. I ran to the office and called my mom, and she was just as happy as I was. The Mulder's called me up to go look at the foals, and I had my choice of 2 colts and a filly. They were about 6 months old and had never had any contact. I watched Bret Mulder get all three of them used to human touch, and he had an amazing perception of what each one's personality was like. The colt I liked, a tank of a sorrel, was just...dull. I couldn't get over his good looks though! I knew I wanted a colt, I already had 3 mares. The other colt was built like a funny Paso Fino, nothing like his brother and sister. He was much taller, and had way more personality then the other two. You could almost see him challenging Bret and he got used to the halter. I thought long and hard about it, and I finally talked myself into the funny little dunalino colt, and I am sooo glad I did. He might not have the good looks of most Foundation Quarter Horses, but he can one up them on one thing...brains. This colt learns so quickly. Once he learns it, it's there forever. He tries his hardest at everything, and even though he gets pushy sometimes, he is a total sweety. He loves to be scratched and loved on. He is just bound to be an awesome horse:)

*Sorry, these pictures kinda suck...my computer is being an idiot :(

Pro's:
First thing that my farrier ever said about him: "He's got really good feet!!"
Easy to bathe
Picks things up really quickly
Very playful with Rebel and keeps himself in shape
Really pretty coloring and is showing all the dun characteristics except for the shoulder bars
Very sweet, in your pocket horse.

Con's:
Second thing that my farrier ever said about him: "He's pushy!"
Doesn't believe in being clean.
Has personal space issues. He was born first, like Bret said, and grew up pushing the other babies around.
Not the greatest conformation...cough.....cough...
The dun qualities keep him out of the Palomino Association:(
The palomino part of him keeps him out of the Buckskin/Dun association. UGH.

Playing jump rope, and he never flinched!

Don't know what it is....but Dusty just LOVES Peyton...

Dusty right after a bath!!!

Dusty is a really great horse, even if he does look like a crack baby. He is still growing into himself and I'm giving him time to grow, not pushing anything on him. The show is in October, so I have plenty of time. I'm not sure yet what I have planned for him, but hopefully his 4 year old year, I will be able to take him to the AQHA World Show:)

What I love about Rebel!

I went on a random road trip yesterday. We woke up at 6:30 and drove about 2 hours to Jet, Oklahoma to dig up crystals in the salt plains. We got a lot of really cool ones!!! My dad did the same thing when he was little with his dad, and we buried some of my grandpa's hair in a hole we dug :')
Then, when I got home Peyton invited me on a trail ride. His friend, Cody picked me up with his old pick up and gooseneck stock trailer. Sassy is much bigger than cows, and had some issues fitting, so we had to do one of my no-no's and leave her untied, but she would've hurt herself if she had gotten tangled up. I really like how Cody drives with a trailer. Much smoother and calmer than my dad. My dad doesn't have an issue stopping for a light; with Cody we had to slowly run three red lights because they changed juuust at the right moment to where we couldn't make a safe stop with the trailer. Sassy did really good on the trail ride. She is very competitive I found out..Repo is NOT allowed to beat her at a race..It started off between me and Peyton "I bet my horse can walk faster than yours" then he started trotting, so Sassy did. They Repo picked up a lope, so did Sassy, then we just flew down the clear stretch of the trail :D It was awesome.

I sat on Rebel a few days ago (don't freak out at me, the vet said I can do that lol). It felt really nice being up that tall, and he gently walked around the pasture. I noticed something about his shoulder. The one that he hurt, and also doesn't use as much, is slightly concave when looking at it from above. But the right one, it's much thicker and built.
I pretty much told Peyton that Rebel is his if his parent's get his settlement. Peyton really loves Rebel, and well, Rebel loves anyone that will pet him. He mainly likes him because he is a big "doughball" and "goofball" and has that "duhhh" look about him. But he still loves him:)

So, this week it's REBEL's turn!!!:)

Mango died the week of Thanksgiving on a Monday, so I didn't go to school. It was a two day week so Tuesday was my last day for the week. On the way home from school, my mom told me about a horse that my uncle Terry had told me about. He was a paint gelding, and he just turned 4, that's all she knew. She said she knew it was way too early to be thinking about getting another horse and she knew that the hole from Mango was not going to fill any time soon, but maybe this horse could keep my mind on something else. We went and looked at him that saturday. He hadn't been touched by people in almost 2 years. He was a little thin, his feet a tad overgrown, but overall he looked really good. And TALL. I was excited that I could finally show paints with my friend Miche'la, but I was still set on Mango. We brought Rebel home for $500. I worked him on things as much as I knew how, but he needed an advanced trainer, severely. So I worked him to extent of my level, never trying too hard to push things on him that I didn't know how to properly do. Rebel was terrified of everything. I slowly and slowly got better with him, and through all of his health ups and downs, he always pulled through, until the bad knews, which I don't want to go through on the fact I'm already on the verge of tears..

Pro's:
This is literally the SWEETEST horse you will ever meet. My vet loooves him.
He tries his hardest
Stands still through the first half of his bath
Good for the ferrier so long as the wind isn't blowing
A generaly easy keeper
Loooves to run and play!
You don't have to worry about keeping him in shape. He does that himself.
Rebel is just a big, beautiful, goofy horse
He suure is fast!
Photogenic!!!
Loves to have his ears scratched.

Con's:
The obvious that he can't be riden.
Can't be shown in showmanship due to the limp.
His two front feet very greatly in siz, shape and degree due to the fact that he uses one leg more than the other
VERY spooky. He is a yummy horse and everything wants to eat him.
His akward favorite spot is his bellybutton. Everyone knows what that is close to on a male horse. Nuff said.
For some odd reason...he does not like the end rinsing off part of the bath. Everything else is cool, just not getting all the dirt off of him.

One of my favorite pictures:)

My friend Kasey riding Rebel...she looks kinda weird here, but that stupid saddle would throw you forward really bad.

Rebel and Dusty playing in the snow!!!

I love this horse to death..this horse is my baby. I never thought I would have to get rid of him, and I think I will be able to keep him until winter. I know it's bad to hold on to something that you must let go, but so many things have gone wrong in my life this past year, with the drama with the family, my grandpa passing away, not being able to ride Rebel, and what not that when I need a place to run, it's always to him. Rebel is like my solid foundation that I keep myself tied too. He may be poison for my heart, but I like the taste...

What I love about Rosie!

I did really great at the show this weekend!!!! 6th in Youth Mares Halter, 2nd in Reining, Barrels, Poles, and Western Pleasure, 1st in Stakes Race and Walk-Trot with Rosie!!!! Then with Dusty I did 2-3yo Geldings Halter, which he didn't place (he had no chance against those big huge guys!), then In-Hand Trail, which he did really good at despite my slip ups, and I don't remember the placings for that class:P
This week I am writing about Rosie!!!

When Mango passed away, I recieved Rebel, but he was obviously not ready for drill, I wasn't ready to quit, and none of the riders on the team wanted me to ride Dream because she is "Pyscho". My best friend's ex-step dad was trying to sell a horse that she used to own, so we inquired and we paid $1800 for her the following January of Mango's death. She was a little thin on the backside and had a huuuge grass belly. It didn't take long for her to get in shape though. She gave me a hell of a first year, taking away Reserve Champion Show and Speed Horse for the Sr. Youth at the OkFQHR shows in 2009, along with helping me get LEAP points in order to win Dusty (I love how all of my horses are connected in some crazy way..haha). Then 2010 was just as great, riding her in the AQHA Youth World Cup, World Show, and NRHA Futurity. I have barely used the halter she won for Freedom Riders Horse of the Year 2010.
From what I know, Karen (Kasey's mom) bought her when she was around 3, then had her in reining training off and on, then went to team roping. She took Karen to NFQHR World's in roping and handy ranch (trail). Rosie has had 2-4 foals, and was Kasey's drill horse for several years. Mango was in love with Rosie, when we were at a Rodeo together, he HATED to be away from her. But who doesn't love Rosie!:) She is the best 20 year old horse out there:D

Pros:
Really really good feet
Stands for the ferrier and baths
REALLY Fast
Total pushover..you can't get on her bad side very easy
Never kicks, bites, or squeels.
The main horse you can always depend on.
Rosie has done pretty much everything.
Great whoa and turns

Cons:
Rosie has the head the size of a warm-blood. And she is 14.3 hands. yeah. lol
Rosie does get a little hard mouthed when she knows it's time to go.
SHE'S A WHITE HORSE IN RED DIRT COUNTRY. Nuff said.
She has a thing about randomly getting hurt before shows.
All the other horses like to chase her around and she doesn't stick up for herself:(
Rosie can be a little hard to keep a good weight on in her older age.

A girl fell off of the back-up pony Sonny during one of our drills, and I just happened to be the rider behind them. Just saying. She made me so proud that day:)

Rosie grazin when she looks nice and is in shape!:)

Last year at Red Dirt Ride Drill Competition with my dad and mom! Gotta love the matching shirts...bahaha..
