Horse slaughter. A rather tender subject for most people, yet something I feel very strongly over. Picture this: what would you rather see? Hundreds of thousands of horses starving and suffering until they die, or horses being killed for their meat to possibly feed starving childeren in Africa or somewhere?
I know, I used to be all like "omg I don't want to see a horse die!! :(" But know that I am older, I realize their is just no other way. Too many people have thought it would be okay to breed a lot of unregistered horses. Too many people have decided that they need more horses. Too many people don't realize there is not enough resources to provide for the overwhelming number of "unwanted horses". People have just started turning their horses out on country roads because they just can't feed them anymore. Horse rescues are having to say "no" to horses in need because they just don't have the room for them.
I, personaly would never want to see my horses go to slaughter. The way the treat the horses there is as if they were never even alive. This is the part that I don't like about the thought of slaughter. It seriously needs reform. They need to find a much more humane way of, well, killing the horses, as every other slaughter house needs to do with cows, pigs, etc.
All just my opinions, hate if you must:)
On a lighter note, I got a new video editing program! Its called Vegas Home Studio, and its pretty legit!!! I'm still a beginner, so my videos have crappy transitions and blah. Here's a video I made for my horse Sassy:
I can't wait to go to the vet tomorrow. Even though I know the trip is going to be hard on Rebel (he is terrified of trailer rides by himself), this is one step closer to him becoming the horse of my dreams. He is literally the sweetest horse I have ever known. He's never kicked, bitten or pinned his ears at me. You sit down in the pasture and he stands behind you and rests his head on your back and lightly plays with your hair. He doesn't deserve to be hurt..I blame it all on his first owners. You can't just leave a horse in a pasture for two years, no human contact, and expect them to be fine. They weren't experienced horse people however, so I can't blame them too much. However, they did spend the money to have him trained before he went to pasture. He was one when they got him, then they rode him when he was two, then it was whatever after that. It took me forever to gain his confidence back. He was scared of humans for the longest time. He is still very spooky, but he comes along everyday. If he gets better quickly, I hope to start getting the barrel pattern on him well and taking him to rodeos...he loves to run:)
I so totally agree with you regarding horse slaughter. Here is a link to a UC Davis article that may interest you.
